…So, I put the finishing touches on the OCR 3 tonight. There were a few things left to do before the new owner picks her up. Plus, it gave me a chance to get some better pictures.

I finished painting and clear-coating the head tube badge, and installed it. I also added the headlight and the taillight.

I re-waxed the accessible areas of the frame. It looks really great. Nice shine.

I cleaned up and installed the bottle cage.

I adjusted the front brakes and the front derailleur.

I readjusted the seat for the new owner.

And here are some final finished pics:

So, this has been a busy couple months for me. My knee is holding up just great, and I’m back to full speed on the bike. In fact, I broke my commute time record a little over a week ago. I did my commute to work (normally a 16.5-18 min ride) in 15:02. That’s door to door (I can ride my bike from the front door of my house to the door of my shop). My average speed was a record 16.2mph! That’s an average speed. I was cooking down Nimitz Highway at 20-22mph that morning (between lights). Anyway, I’m pretty happy with my time and progress. Oh, and that was on my hybrid with front and rear racks, a trunk bag, front panniers, and about 8 lbs of work stuff…

In other updates, I’ve uploaded photos of the airshow we had here in October, and of my 2yr old picking out her pumpkin. I also found out that my free flickr account will only display the last 200 photos uploaded. So, some of my earlier bike photos won’t display. I’ll decide later whether to upgrade the account, or be more selective about uploaded photos.

Well, the SuperFerry fiasco has made some positive progress. They were able to wade through the pool of crap thrown at them and get a special session where a bill was passed that allows the SuperFerry to continue operations while the State conducts an environmental impact survey (yes, the same one the State told the SuperFerry they didn’t have to do). So, there should be some deals coming up soon. Maybe I can start planning my bike tour of Maui sooner rather than later.

Let’s see, what else?… Oh, I don’t think I’ve posted this yet, but we are having another baby! Due date is Jan 22, 2008. It’s a BOY! We’ve picked a name for him: Elliot Lee Stone. So, what do you think? I think it’s pretty cool.

Not much else going on. While you wait for me to update my blog again, be sure to check out some of the links on the right.

…haven’t been riding… August 11, 2007

I came down with Shingles a couple weeks ago. It attacked my L3 nerve bundle, which is the upper front to lower inner area on my left thigh. This has seriously hampered my ability (and motivation) to ride. After one misdiagnosis, and a week and a half, I’ve been prescribed some medication called Acyclovir which seems to be helping it out quite a bit. I take one 800mg pill every 6hrs for 7 days. I’ve managed to go to work (except for two days) and am otherwise productive. In fact, I’ve been cleaning and organizing my garage. Soon, I’ll have a workbench station setup just for bike maintenance.

I’ve also uploaded some pictures from my last weekend ride (back in July), and pictures of what happens when I don’t follow my own plans – and build a 50W Halogen spotlight that runs off 12VDC. Yeah, there could have been a fire, but man – it was a great light while it lasted!

Anyway, I should be back on the bike soon. I need to be, the Honolulu Century Ride is coming up at the end of September, and I want to ride the full 100 miles. Right now, I’m severely out of shape and have put on 14 pounds in the last month. Well, back on the bike soon enough. The shingles are phasing out of the pain stage and back to the crazy itchy stage, and the blisters are drying up. Gross. Another week and I’ll be riding again.

Did you know (of course you didn’t) that the Canon SD700IS is ranked number 18 out of 121 Canon cameras on flickr? See it here: http://www.flickr.com/cameras/canon/powershot_sd700_is/

Six of the 17 cameras ranked above it are also Canon SD series cameras. Cool.

Updated information for obtaining camping permits to camp at a city park on the island of Oahu. This update also includes information I found for camping at Bellows AFS and at Peacock Flats.

Uploaded the application form for camping or hiking in the Kuaokala – Mokuleia Forest Reserve. The application can be found under the Sub Page for camping permits, or in the My Share Box Widget on the bottom right of the page.

Uploaded more pictures to flickr. Now have 148 from my trip on their server.
