My Bike(s)
…new bike…
I’ve deleted the info about my last two bikes (Specialized Sirrus, and Giant OCR3), and will soon be updating to show you my new bike. I’ve recently put a 62cm Surly Long Haul Trucker in utility blue on layaway in a bike shop in Minnesota.
Here’s a stock photo:
Any thoughts?
Dude! You got the shop together, and you already know what group you like. Build Up the LHT! If you DON’T build it yourself, you NEVER be 100% satisfied with it and you won’t be able to be 110% smug about it. ALSO, if you DIY, you’ll be able to tinker with it forever, and you can justify buying or even making more tools. Just my Very Humble Opinion. I have no doubt you’ve seen Surleyville.com.
Yes. Yes, I think that is the way to go. I’ll learn more, and ultimately be more proud of it… thanks for the comment!
Get a Gordon and all your troubles will fad away!
Sweet rod. Well done.
I definitely have a beginners commuter bike (Kona Dew) and am moving to Oahu in Jan. to work in Honolulu. anyone have rec’s on which areas to live that are “commutable” around town? I currently commute about 3-5miles each way with hills… so I’ve got the gears and the fenders for all seasons!
Thanks.
I have a sirrus 07 that I’m planning to use on a tour from boston to nyc. I like your setup a lot. What kind of bar ends, panniers and saddle do you have?
Any bar ends will do. For panniers, I can’t say enough good things about the Arkel bags. Go for small/medium up front, and large in back. I use the 42’s in the back and the 28’s in the front.
The only way to go for a touring saddle is a Brooks. But break it in before your tour. It takes 500 miles of good riding to get it broke in, then it’s a dream to ride. Keep a shower cap in your trunk bag to throw over the saddle when it’s wet outside and you are not on the bike.
Hope that helps.
Thanks for your suggestions man!
As you’ve deleted the info about your Sirrus, I wonder if i could ask what size tires you had on it? I tour on a Sirrus and am quite happy with it but heading to China where the roads won’t be quite so smooth and am wanting to put a fatter tire on (maybe 32mm, now carrying 28mm). Do you know if the stock rims will carry this or will I have to change the rims too? Also will the bigger tire fit in the frame?
Thanks
